HUMAN RIGHTS LECTURE AND NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD 2009
In commemoration of International Human Rights Day, Centre for Human Rights Education & Reporting and The View Magazine in collaboration with the coalition of human rights and civil society organizations in Nigeria organise Human Rights Lecture and National Human Rights Award of Excellence on the 10th of December, 2009 at Shehu Musa Yar’adua International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The Human Rights Lecture is expected to be delivered by International human rights experts across the globe, while the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation is expected to be a Special Guest Speaker on any human rights related topic. The President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Umar Musa Yar’adua is expected to be the Father of the Day, while the Senate President, Senator David Mark and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole are expected to be Special Guests. Other stakeholders in the media, pro-democracy and human rights organization are being expected from Nigeria and some West African Countries.
The National Human Rights Award recognizes Nigerians who have not been convicted of any criminal offence involving dishonesty and corruption by any court of competent jurisdiction and not officially bankrupt. The awardees are those who have made significant contributions to human rights causes, corporate and social responsibilities, charitable and philanthropy through nonviolent means. The Award aims to generate positive national and international attention for the recipients and to support their efforts.
Nominees are submitted from around the country by prominent individuals, human rights community and non-governmental organizations. Recipients are selected by the award committee members drawn from all collaborating organizations.
